Since our very first vacation to Kentucky in 2002, we have loved to go visit the Amish families.
Anyone who knows us, knows that we both love and are fascinated by their way of life.
We love to go to their homes and buy their homemade goodies!
I have been collecting baskets since our first visit. I love how they sign their name and the date inside the handle of the basket. I have quite a collection and can look back to see what year I brought them home. Some of them Kacey has sent via mail to me for holidays because she knows how much I love them.
The Yoder family is our favorite family to visit.
Katie Yoder (the grandmother) makes the most beautiful baskets and is so friendly and fun to talk with. After a long sickness, her husband Mose just passed away in January. We were sad to hear that.
She makes all shapes, sizes. and colors of baskets!
I got myself a utensil holder and a mini basket to remember this trip by. The others, along with homemade peanut brittle were taken home as souvenirs for family who had put in a special request.
Yes, the toddler holding my new mini basket was refusing to look at the camera:)
The boys were taking a break under the shade tree while we were there. They had been out thrashing the wheat.
After our visit with the Yoder family, we went to a new Amish run store. It was a grocery store, with marked down goods, along with a bakery and deli. We ordered sandwiches to eat at the picnic table out front. They made the biggest, best sandwiches. The baked goods we bought were also outstanding!
It was out in the middle of nowhere, with a beautiful view!
We drove back to James and Kacey's house so the little ones could nap. Kacey found a new spot in her house to put a basket, so she and I ran back out to the Yoder's house to get the new basket. While we were out there, one of the grown Yoder sons was tending the bee hives. He called us over to teach us all about bees and hiving.
Sarah and Lavina were fascinated with my phone when they saw me using it to take pictures of the hives. I snapped a quick selfie of them while they were checking it out:).
On our way back to James and Kacey's house, we passed this buggy. I wish I had captured it with my real camera, but I didn't have time. I love this picture! The rows of corn and the Amish buggy... so pretty and one thing we love so much about coming up to visit.
More pictures of our family night/farewell party coming up!
