Last Day of School

Everyone woke up ready to bid farewell to another school year, and hello to summer!
Middle school flew by!  I had to document Blake's last walk into middle school :(
Back up to the elementary school for last day festivities.
Kaleb got a few awards and made a special 1st Grade Memory Book.
His teacher was perfect for him! He had a fantastic year!
We are very proud of him!  He loves school and learning and made good choices with his behavior!
Barrett made a display board about his year and received several awards including: Perfect Attendance, Art Achievement, Music Award, Math Award, A Honor Roll, Eagle Award, and Excellence in Science Award.
All three of his teachers were amazing this year!  He had a fantastic year!
We are so proud of his drive and hard work!
Brynn made a poster and information sheets about her year. She also received several awards (we lost her folder at the school and can't remember all of her awards).
Mrs. Swindle was a perfect match for Brynn!
Brynn is a hard worker, always striving to do her best. We are so proud of her!
And then I went to pick this guy up for his last day of middle school.  He had a wonderful middle school experience!  We are proud of the choices he makes and his character.  He learned and achieved a lot academically during his time here.  High school here he comes!
And in the blink of an eye, another school year has gone by.
We are going to soak up every second of our time together this summer!

Swim Team

Barrett tried out for a summer swim league.
 He made the team!
We are now getting to experience a new sport in our family! Fun times ahead!

Final Exams

Blake had final exams and early release leading up to the last day of school.
He and I went out to Whataburger for lunch, one of his favorites.  We followed that up with a little shopping trip (he never stops growing).
The senior reception was after school today.  All of the graduating seniors that attended our elementary school were there.  These two girls were my former kindergartners.  Grace is our high school's Valedictorian, with the highest GPA in our school's history.  Both she and Lauren have big future plans. I am so proud of all of them!
Today was Robert's day off, so the three of us got to eat a special lunch when Blake got out for early release (It was bright today!).
Blake wanted to go to the guitar store after lunch.  We went for a visit before a huge storm blew in.
We went to pick up the other 3 kids, but they weren't being released due to a nearby tornado.  We left the school pick-up line to head home and take shelter.  Once the threat was gone, we went to get the other kids from school (about an hour after regular release time).

Texoma Shores- Last Day

We ate breakfast and then sat around camp enjoying the nice breeze this morning.
The Duncans had to leave early today due to a new baby being born in their family.
We took another walk down by the lake.
The kids played volleyball and in the sand while we started getting camp ready to pack up.
 It was a good trip!
Until next time...

Fort Washita

This morning we took a little walk around flooded Lake Texoma.  Part of the little road that runs around the campground is underwater.

The kids had fun checking out all of the debris that's been washing up to shore.
They played in the sand and under the big shade tree behind our campsite for hours.
Since we haven't been to Fort Washita in a few years, and the Duncans have never been, we decided to go do a little sightseeing.
Fort Washita was built in 1842 as the southwestern-most military post of the United States. The mission of Fort Washita was to maintain peace for the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations within their new lands, pursuant to treaty obligations. There were many outside threats to the new home of the Chickasaw people, including attacks by Republic of Texas militia, interference by unscrupulous intruders, constant raids by Plains tribes, the presence of traders and trappers, and unsettled scores with some of the Plains tribes due to disputes concerning hunting grounds in the Homeland. Fort Washita operated as a United States military post until the start of the Civil War in 1861. It was then occupied by Confederate forces through 1865. The fort was almost entirely destroyed by the Confederates as they fled at the end of the Civil War.
After enjoying the beautiful grounds of Fort Washita and getting to learn more about our rich history, we headed back to camp. We cooked foil packs for dinner and sat outside until we couldn't tolerate the mosquitos any longer.
It was a good day!

Texoma Shores

After an extremely busy couple of months, we were so ready to hook the camper up and hit the road!
We headed to Texoma Shores for the weekend.  It's a small, quiet campground on Lake Texoma.
Hello weekend!
