Venture is a weekend retreat where students from our church in grades 7-12 spend time in Bible study and worship.
Families in the church agree to host a small group for the weekend. We hosted a group of 7th grade boys. The church also brings back former students who are now in college to stay at the Host Home and lead the small group. We had two great college freshman, Landon and Nathan.
There were large group sessions at the church where our speaker Shane Pruitt spoke. And there were super-intentional small group times in our home where the students got deeper with our college small group leaders. It’s a focused time of spiritual growth and application.
Part of our free time was spent doing a mission project. This put an even greater emphasis on discipleship and helped the students understand the importance of living out their faith.
Over the years, the last night has become dress-up night. Our group dressed up in camo (our college guys didn't have the proper camo gear with them, so they aren't dressed up). It was fun to see what all of the groups came up with!
Our group of boys had a fun time together! They ate and drank lots of sugar every night before bed, and again when they woke up, laughed, played, and strengthened friendships. They were all respectful and courteous guests in our home. Most importantly, they learned what it means to not simply be a fan of Christ, but a true follower.
